The AM Show hits the road

  • 11/06/2018

Hosts of the AM Show Duncan Garner, Amanda Gillies and Mark Richardson will be abandoning the bright lights of their studio to broadcast live from four iconic destinations around New Zealand.

The multi-platform programme will visit Queenstown, Nelson, Napier and Rotorua across two weeks, with the entire set travelling to each location along with the presenters.

Duncan Garner is eager to get on the road, if a little nervous about the unprecedented task of making an entire morning news show mobile.

"We've decided to test the annoying LED alarm clocks in motels across the country and bring The AM Show to you," he says.

"We have stripped the walls, unscrewed the desks, and grabbed the cameras and the microphones...this time we do it from your place!"

The road trip will be supported by Chorus, and will be an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the people, places and stories of each area.

"I'm from a small town and I'm forever a small town girl at heart," says Amanda Gillies, who hails from Gisborne.

"It's going to be a lot of fun - I can't wait to meet the locals, try the local food (and, ahem, wineries) and immerse myself in everything each place has to offer."

Mark Richardson says the regional cities are the "lifeblood" of New Zealand.

"Although I would like to state, for the record, that Invercargill is the best city in our country," he added.

The AM Show will be travelling the country from July 2-13.
