NZ's annual post-New Year's festival Bay Dreams is back for 2019, bringing with it an international line up and a second South Island location.

The festivities have been held in the Bay Of Plenty on January 2 for the last three years.

Promoters have now confirmed 2019's event will see the addition of a sister festival in Nelson on January 4, with many of the biggest acts performing at both venues.

Kiwi concert mainstays Shapeshifter and Katchafire will take to the stage, alongside a plethora of other home grown acts such as P Money and Ladi 6.

They'll be joined by Aussie big-hitters DJ duo Peking Duk, multi-instrumentalist Tash Sultana, and dance trio PNAU, who will be playing their first ever show in Aotearoa.

Organisers are promising further acts are still to be announced, hinting at a "major scale hip hop artist" to be added to the North Island show.

Revellers will be able to camp on site at both festivals, as well as experiencing NZ's biggest silent disco and a marketplace.
