Just in case it was keeping you up at night - Bill Corgan is not Taylor Swift's father.

Following a meme showing a side-by-side comparison of Swift and Corgan, supposedly highlighting how alike the musicians look, rumour stirred online the two could be related.

Despite the meme receiving little attention, Corgan believed fans could be confused, so he took to Instagram to deny any connection to Swift.

It only gets weirder from there.

Not only does Corgan seem to attempt to decipher notions of identity, self-love and the social media culture, but the Smashing Pumpkins frontman says "there is no such person as 'Billy Corgan'", or "BC", as he refers to himself.

The so-called "Billy Corgan" is apparently no different than a cartoon picture of Batman or Spongebob.

He goes on to say that until he was 18, he was called "Bill" or "Little Bill" to distinguish himself from his father Billy. But following years of abuse he became "Billy Corgan", a different man with a different walk, haircut and even eyes.

Comparing his transformation to that of Robert Zimmerman into Bob Dylan, the long Instagram ramble finished with an apparently unpublished quote: "You can keep Billy Corgan, he is dead."

So because Billy Corgan does not exist, Billy Corgan cannot be Taylor Swift's father?

Here are the posts so you can try and figure it out.
