Dancing with the Stars NZ champion Sam Hayes says real winner is charity Riding for the Disabled

After a day full of media interviews, Samantha Hayes was still reeling Monday night after her win in the grand final of Dancing With The Stars NZ.

Hundreds of thousands of New Zealanders watched the show on Sunday night, as the top four couples gathered at "Glitter Ball HQ" to find out who the supreme winner would be.

The Newshub presenter and pro dance partner Aaron Gilmore earned the glitter ball trophy after the public gave them the most votes, despite the judges naming former cricketer Chris Harris as their pick for winner.

But the biggest winner was their charity, NZ Riding for the Disabled, who will receive all proceeds from Sam and Aaron's votes.

Pippa, who uses Riding for the Disabled, joined the dance duo on The Project's set on Monday night, saying their win was "really good". She even made her own congratulations drawings for Sam and Aaron.

Sam said she was "absolutely surprised" by Sunday night's result.

"Oh absolutely surprised, I think just had shock and disbelief on my face. I'm still buzzing."
