One Direction fans have been sent into a frenzy after it emerged details of an Australian reunion show appeared on Ticketmaster on Saturday.

The concert listing was quickly removed from the website, after it said a comeback was planned for December 31, 2020, at Melbourne's Etihad Stadium.

It comes after the British boy band - which included Harry Styles, 24, Liam Payne, 24, Louis Tomlinson, 26, and Niall Horan, 24 - took a two-year break, during which time the members have all spawned their own individual careers.

Melbourne's Etihad stadium said on Instagram that the event isn't in its schedule in a reply to someone who asked if it was true.

But while the stadium doesn't know if the rumours are true or not, a source close to the band told Newshub a reunion tour is definitely on the cards.

The band, which formed in 2010 on the TV show The X Factor, is no stranger to Down Under, having toured Australia four times between 2012 and 2015, and New Zealand twice, the last time in October 2013.

Zayn Malik, 25, left the group in 2015 "to be a normal 22-year-old", leaving One Direction to continue on tour as a four-piece band.

Liam recently discussed the possibility of the band getting together again, telling the Daily Star in June that it could happen in around two years' time.

"It's amazing that we're doing our own thing and then, hopefully one day soon, we get back together and have another great time of it, who knows?" he said.

One fan said on twitter she feels the need to constantly have money in her bank account just in case One Direction spontaneously announce a reunion tour.

Another Twitter fan said if the band is touring in 2020, instead of paying towards her first year of college loans, she’d be selling her soul for tickets to a One Direction show.

Another said they’d sell their left kidney just to witness the band get back together for a reunion tour.
