A 25-year-old trans woman has been crowned Miss Universe Spain.

Angela Ponce is the first transgender woman to win the crown in Spain, and will now represent her country in the 67th Miss Universe 2018 pageant.

Her victory coincides with LGBT Pride month.

The Miss Universe Organisation changed its rules in 2012 to allow transgender contestants to compete.

In 2012, Jenna Talackova from Canada became the first trans woman to compete in the pageant.
