Jemaine Clement has admitted he and fellow Flight of the Conchords band mate Bret McKenzie once accidentally stole the rider of hair metal band Whitesnake.

Speaking to Time Out, Clement said the Kiwi comedy duo's own rider is "pretty boring", but that they once lucked out when they played the same venue as the glam rockers.

"One time we got a really exciting rider that had a lot of vodka and bourbon and brown bread and stuff," he said.

"It turned out that Whitesnake were playing the same venue the next night and we'd got their rider.

"It was a funny mixture of hard liquor and health food."

Clement tweeted about the mix-up as it was unfolding back in 2016.

At the time, he explained that the Conchords weren't sold on the brown liquor, but happily took a loaf of bread.

The What We Do In The Shadows star confirmed to Time Out that bread remains on their rider to this day, accompanying the pair's request for "a lot of cheese".

Clement never found out if Whitesnake ended up with the Conchords' cheese in the confusion.

"I was just excited that we were eating food meant for Whitesnake," he said.

The Masterton native is starring in an upcoming movie called The Festival, where he plays the over-enthusiastic step father of Inbetweeners actor Joe Thomas' character.
