Investigative journalist Lisa Owen will be leaving Newshub later this year.

Owen is replacing John Campbell as the presenter for Radio New Zealand's Checkpoint programme, it was announced on Monday afternoon.

The current Newshub Nation and RadioLIVE host will be leaving Newshub to take up the mantle later this year.

MediaWorks Chief News Officer Hal Crawford noted Owen's considerable influence as an investigative reporter and presenter.

"Lisa is an extraordinary person and someone who has made an enormous contribution to our newsroom," he said.

"She is the real deal journalist: honest, ferocious, with a burning desire to tell the truth.

"She's also committed to developing young reporters, and she leaves Newshub with a lot of goodwill."

RNZ said in a statement that they are "delighted" to have Owen on board as "an outstanding journalist and broadcaster."

Owen will begin her role in mid-September, replacing veteran broadcaster John Campbell, who has fronted the show since 2015.

Campbell is leaving the current affairs programme for a position at TVNZ.
