A photographer has accused Bill Murray of assault.

Peter Simon told the Boston Globe he was on an assignment on August 8 when the Ghostbusters star spotted him.

Murray allegedly accosted the photographer, slamming him into a door and pouring water on his head, as well levelling threats at the man and swearing.

Mr Simon said he wasn't there to take pictures of Murray and was instead working with local band the Marotta Brothers.

He told the Martha's Vineyard Times he didn't notice the actor when he arrived or recognise him before the altercation.

But according to the police report Murray was "visibly upset" and said Mr Simon was harassing him.

Nobody was charged or injured in relation to the incident. Local police have advised Mr Simon he can make a criminal complaint if he would like.

Murray is yet to comment publicly on the matter.
