Cher promises ABBA songs in NZ tour, recounts 'amazing' last visit here

Rising to fame in the '60s as part of husband and wife duo Sonny and Cher, the Goddess of pop is still going strong at 72 years young.

Cher is returning to New Zealand for the first time in 13 years, so The Project set off to find out what fans can expect.

"I hope they like it as much as they liked the last show. I'm the same, I'm me - so that's what you're going to get," she said.

Last time she was in New Zealand she spent time with Peter Jackson during the filming of King Kong and said it was an "amazing experience".

She says she has decided at least two ABBA songs in mind to perform in New Zealand already, but it seems there will be more.

In terms of whether she still enjoys touring, she says it depends on the night - but she always ends up having fun.

"If I stopped doing that, I wouldn't work anymore," she said.

She recently starred in Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, and says it reinvigorated her passion for acting.

"I didn't know what to expect because I was coming on to a sequel [and] everyone knew each other - I was the last person to get there."

She says her character was the villain, and she had to think hard about how to make her character likeable in the three minutes of screen time she had.
