Kanoa Lloyd teaches weatherman Ollie Ritchie te reo Māori

It's Māori language week, and that means the weather will be delivered with Māori place names.

For Pākehā Newshub reporter Ollie Ritchie, who will be hosting Newshub's weather bulletin, he will be doing it in Te Reo for the first time.

"I'm not going to lie, I don't have a lot of Te Reo experience," Ritchie told the camera, listing the few words he knows.

"Doing the weather and doing it in Te Reo is a little daunting for me."

Fortunately, The Project host Kanoa Lloyd was on hand to offer some advice - both for Ritchie and the viewers.

"I know he's a little bit nervous about this, but I'm here to help him out - and hopefully, he can help you out to get a little bit more confidence speaking and using Māori in your day-to-day life," she says.

"Definitely, just give speaking Māori a go. There's no Māori police, no one's going to tell you off if you get it wrong or put you in jail.

"Do what Ollie's doing and just give it a jam."
