Rapper Mac Miller has reportedly died of a drug overdose, aged 26.

TMZ reports emergency services were called to the rapper's house on Friday afternoon (local time) and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Miller became popular following the release of his debut studio album Blue Side Park in 2011 and had recently released his fifth album Swimming.

According to TMZ his substance abuse problems began following his break up with singer Ariana Grande in May.

He was due to go on tour soon, tweeting about it shortly before he died.

"The show is going to be special every night. I wish it started tomorrow," he wrote. "It starts October 27th."

Miller last visited New Zealand in September 2017, playing a one-off show at Auckland's Logan Campbell centre.
