Banksy video reveals he wanted to shred entire 'Girl with a Balloon' artwork

Banksy has published a video which suggests his recent stunt of shredding an expensive artwork the moment it was auctioned off didn't go according to plan.

The secretive British artist's shredder trick was pulled at Sotheby's in London, where his 'Girl with a Balloon' piece sold for over NZ$2.1 million.

In the new video, entitled 'Shred the Love (the director's cut)', Banksy shows himself constructing the remotely-triggered shredding mechanism.

He includes footage from the auction room and the moment of partial destruction, before the video cuts to a text message saying: "In rehearsals it worked every time..."

It then shows a 'Girl with a Balloon' copy going entirely through the shredding machine.

Banksy's new video follows an earlier one in which he said he "secretly built a shredder into a painting in case it was ever put up for auction".

Sotheby's said the winner of the 'Girl with a Balloon' auction still paid full price for the partly destroyed artwork.
