Johnny Depp dropped from Pirates of the Caribbean - report

Johnny Depp has reportedly been axed from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and won't appear in an upcoming reboot.

The 55-year-old's Captain Jack Sparrow was the main star of the first five films, released between 2003 and 2017.

Depp, first arrested for assault in 1989, has been accused of domestic violence by former partner Amber Heard in recent years, and reportedly been dealing with drug and alcohol related issues.

Speaking with the Daily Mail, Pirates of the Caribbean writer Stuart Beattie confirmed the actor has been cut from the franchise.

"He's had a great run," says Beattie.

"I think Jack Sparrow will be [Depp's] legacy. It's the only character he's played five times, it's the character he dresses up in to visit children in hospitals, it's what he'll be remembered for.

"It's been great for us, so I'm just very, very happy about it."

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, writers of Deadpool and Zombieland, are apparently writing the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
