Comedy legend Dave Chappelle says rapper Kanye West " shouldn't say all that shit" about Donald Trump and slavery.

West is a big supporter of the US President, despite critics saying Mr Trump's election has emboldened white supremacists across the US. The pair met at the White House last week, West calling Mr Trump a "father figure" whose trademark hat makes him feel "like Superman".

The 'Gold Digger' rapper also recently called slavery a "choice" and called for the abolishment of the amendment to the US Constitution which outlawed it.

In a new interview with CNN, Chappelle calls West "a genius" who needs to be a bit more careful with his choice of words.

"I'm not mad at Kanye. That's my brother - I love him, I support him," Chappelle says. "But, you know, I don't have to agree with everything that he says. I just trust him as a person of intent. But yeah, he shouldn't say all that shit."

When Mr Trump was elected in 2016, Chappelle said he was ready to give the reality TV star a chance. Not anymore.

"I shouldn't have said that shit."
