Police forced to confirm suspect isn't Eminem after posting images of lookalike

US police have confirmed a man who appears in images of a trespassing incident is not rapper Eminem, despite the uncanny similarities.

The Rochester Police Department posted images of the Slim Shady lookalike in a bid to identify a male suspect, but they didn't quite get the information they were hoping for.

The Facebook post soon went viral, and authorities were met with an influx of comments about the man's resemblance to the rapper, whose real name is Marshall Mathers.

The top comment suggests the man was "probably just going 'round the outside, 'round the outside," referencing the lyrics of Eminem's hit song 'Without Me'.

An update was added to the caption after police successfully identified the person.

"The subject has been identified, and we can confirm it is NOT Marshall Mathers," the post read.

At the time of writing, the post had amassed over 97,000 comments, and been shared more than 117,000 times.

Eminem has not yet responded to the case of mistaken identity.

The 'Not Afraid' hit maker has recently made headlines for his ongoing feud with fellow rapper Machine Gun Kelly.
