Twitter plans to remove like button

Twitter plans to remove the ability to like a tweet, which they say will improve the quality of online debates.

At a Twitter event, founder Jack Dorsey admitted he didn't like the heart-shaped feature and would be getting rid of it, The Telegraph reports.

Similar to like buttons on other social media platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram, the feature allows users to express their appreciation of a post.

Mr Dorsey says the company is always experimenting behind the scenes to help make the platform a "healthier place" by reducing "echo chambers" and cracking down on misinformation.

The feature was introduced in 2015, replacing the star-shaped button that allowed people to 'favourite' tweets to come back to and read at a later time.

Mr Dorsey has also hinted he will be bringing in the option for users to edit tweets and that the verification process where a blue tick certifies celebrities and influencers could change.
