Donald Trump tweets out Game of Thrones themed photo, cast lashes out

Donald Trump has been criticised online for his use of a Game of Thrones themed photo promoting incoming sanctions.

The image shows Mr Trump against a grey background with the words "sanctions are coming" in Game of Thrones font displayed prominently.

It's believed the tweet is referring to incoming sanctions against Iran after Mr Trump pulled out of an Obama-era agreement with the country in May.

The tweet has received more than 130,000 likes, but it appears HBO, the network that produces Game of Thrones, wasn't a fan.

"How do you say trademark misuse in Dothraki," it said on Twitter, referring to a fictional language from Game of Thrones.

Game of Thrones stars also expressed distaste for the picture, with both Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner both mentioning their annoyance on Twitter.

"Not today," Williams wrote.

Turner was more succinct, simply saying: "ew".

A Game of Thrones representative told Entertainment Weekly the company was not pleased to see its intellectual property being used for political messaging.

"We were not aware of this messaging and would prefer our trademark not be misappropriated for political purposes," the spokesperson said.
