After an excruciatingly long wait for fans, HBO has finally confirmed when the eighth season of Game Of Thrones will premiere.

A new teaser video for the show's final season revisits various crucial moments from previous episodes before announcing the hit fantasy show will return to screens in April 2019.

Warning: Spoilers for previous seasons of Game of Thrones below.

Winding all the way back to season one, the 30-second-long clip looks at some of the show's most shocking deaths, including Joffrey's poisoning and Catelyn Stark's murder.

An on-screen graphic reads: "Every battle. Every betrayal. Every risk. Every fight. Every sacrifice.Every death. All #ForTheThrone."

The final season will be comprised of six episodes that will reportedly run for around 90 minutes each.

There are many loose ends to be tied up in order to seal the fate of surviving characters such as Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen and Cersei Lannister in their respective pursuits of the Iron Throne.

Earlier this year, HBO president Casey Bloys explained why crafting the show's conclusion has been such a long time coming for showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss.

"Here's what I'll tell you: they take the time they need to do the show at its highest level of quality," Bloys told Entertainment Weekly.

"As the show has gone on, it's gotten bigger - big battle scenes, big special effects.

"They're perfectionists and this is the soonest it can come back at a level of quality that they are comfortable with."

In June, HBO confirmed they had given the green light to a Game Of Thrones prequel spin-odd series, set "thousands of years before the events" of the series fans know now.
