Ridley Scott is developing a sequel to his 2000 hit film Gladiator, according to multiple reports.
The original film starred Russell Crowe as a Roman general who was betrayed by the Emperor Commodus and forced to become a gladiator, before savagely fighting his way to revenge.

It won Best Picture and Best Actor at the Oscars and grossed US$460 million at the worldwide box office.
The sequel will reportedly focus on Lucius, the son of Lucilla - played by Connie Nielsen in the original - and nephew of Commodus, according to the Guardian.
Gladiator 2 is set to be written by Peter Craig, whose credits include The Town and the upcoming Top Gun: Maverick.
Scott and Crowe followed the original Gladiator with a number of subsequent collaborations, including American Gangster (2007), Robin Hood (2010), Body of Lies (2008) and A Good Year (2006).
