A sequel to the dystopian book The Handmaid's Tale is on the way, with writer Margaret Atwood confirming the sequel on Twitter.
The Handmaids Tale was initially published in 1985 and has seen a surge in popularity following a recent Hulu series adaptation.

It follows a society where strict religious rules are adhered to, and women are subjugated.
Atwood wrote on Twitter the next novel, called The Testaments, will not exactly pick up where The Handmaid's Tale left off and instead take place several years later.
"Yes indeed to those who asked: I'm writing a sequel to The Handmaid's Tale. The Testaments is set 15 years after Offred's final scene and is narrated by three female characters," she wrote.
The Testaments will be released in September 2019. There is not currently a date set for a third season of The Handmaid's Tale.
