Watch: The first glimpse at live-action Lion King starring Beyoncé and Childish Gambino

The first look at the live-action version of the Disney classic The Lion King has been released and it looks epic.

Disney has dropped the 90-second teaser trailer which gives fans a first glimpse at the CGI version of some of the beloved characters, Mufasa, Rafiki and baby Simba.

The trailer also shows impressive sweeping views of Pride Rock and the African savanna.

Directed by Jon Favreau, the movie is the latest in a string of live remakes of Disney films. Mr Favreau had much success directing the 2016 remake of The Jungle Book which raked in $966 million (US) at the box office.

The Lion King boasts an all-star cast featuring Beyoncé as Nala, Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino as Simba, Billy Eichner as Timon, Seth Rogan as Pumbaa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar and James Earl Jones returning to his role as Mufasa.

The flick is expected to hit theatres July next year, 25 years after the original animated version was released.
