Intensely gripping trailer released for Hotel Mumbai

An intense trailer has been released for Hotel Mumbai following the film's premiere at the Toronto Film Festival.

The thriller is based on the 2008 Mumbai attacks, in which terrorists carried out shooting and bombings across the Indian city that killed at least 174 people.

The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel was targeted by the Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists as they believed attacking it would be "striking a blow against a symbol of Indian wealth and progress".

Hotel Mumbai stars Dev Patel, Armie Hammer and Jason Isaacs, and is the feature debut of Australian director Anthony Maras.

Early reviews herald the film as "an excellent, white-knuckle thriller", a "gut punch of emotion" and "as close to reality as a movie can be".

However, critics also say it "takes the real-life horror a bit too far" and "re-sensationalises [the real life events] and packages it to fit an entertaining and engrossing thriller".

New Zealand cinemagoers will get to make their own minds up when Hotel Mumbai is released in early 2019.
