Morning-after pill in hot demand at Rhythm and Vines

Despite all the planning Gisborne undertakes before its annual Rhythm and Vines New Year's Eve music festival, there's still one item the city is said to run short on.

The morning-after pill.

Mayor Meng Foon says some Gisborne pharmacies can't get hold of enough of the emergency contraceptive to meet demand.

"I'm not sure what's happening. It must be something in the water up there, or in the music," he tells Stuff.

It appears that Rhythm and Vines management is enthusiastic about raging hormones at the event - a Monday tweet from the R&V account advertises a "commitment-free" hook-up app.

"If you haven't sussed your NYE kiss for tonight, do not fear. Our mates over at the HUD App will lend a helping hand. Their features are designed especially with festivals in mind."

Rhythm and Vines is in its 16th year, with more than 20,000 people flocking to the Gisborne region.

This year's event features artists including Vince Staples, Wilkinson, Duke Dumont, Bicep, Tchami x Malaa and Flight Facilities.
