Phantom Thread named best film of 2018 by New Zealand critics

New Zealand's film critics have collectively named Phantom Thread the greatest film of 2018.

It tops a list of the year's 10 best movies that also includes the latest Mission: Impossible sequel, several horror movies and - for the first time - a film that was only released in Aotearoa via Netflix.

Phantom Thread is a darkly comic period drama from Paul Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights, There Will Be Blood) that marked the final performance of three-time Best Actor Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis.

The list was voted on by reviewers from Flicks.co.nz, Newshub, NZ Herald, Stuff, The Listener, Radio NZ, 95bFM, the Dominion Post, NBR, The Pantograph Punch, the Sunday Star-Times and more.

Get Out topped the list in 2017, while Hell or High Water did in 2016.
