A famous Bollywood star is under fire after she posted screenshots of a racist exchange about an Arsenal football player between herself and a friend.

Esha Gupta, a well-known Arsenal fan, posted the conversation on Friday evening with the caption "HAHAHA..BEST"

The image showed a conversation between her and another Instagram user.

The other person writes "Solves our winger issues. I can't see that gorilla faced Iwobi running down the flank again. He's so bad ya."

Her reply supports this remark, reading "Hahahahahaha I honestly dunno why they don't bench him more."

The other person replies "It's like evolution stopped for him. Didn't change from Neanderthal to man."

Ms Gupta quickly deleted the post, but her followers had been quick to screenshot it. Although comments on her Instagram page have been limited, Twitter users are slamming her for the racist post.

"You are a racist piece of trash" wrote one user

"Pathetic! Shame on you! Never was a fan, and you've lost more fans. Words. They are like knives and you can't take them back" said another.

Ms Gupta hastily posted an apology on her Twitter, saying "Guys m sorry you thought it was racist. Was bad on my part, being a sports lover. Wallah never meant it. Sorry guys forgive the stupidity #gooner4life." (sic)

But this apology fell on deaf ears, with many users calling for her to remove herself from the Arsenal fan base.

She also said she had been a victim of racism before, and did not intend to be racist but this too was poorly received

"I'm sorry you have had to suffer racism before," replied one user "That's not really an excuse for inflicting it. You made hateful remarks and cannot claim ignorance. There is a long, long history of describing black people as less than human, as gorillas. Please don't pretend to be unaware."
