Sam Smith gives The Edge radio station a shout-out on his Instagram

Sam Smith has taken to Instagram to give Kiwi radio station The Edge a shout-out to his 11.1 million followers.

The Grammy Award-winner is holidaying in New Zealand, where he says he heard his song 'Promises' on the radio for the first time.

Smith was listening to The Edge in a car when he captured the moment on his story, captioning the clip: "First time I have ever heard 'Promises' on the radio!!!

"Thank you 94.2 Auckland."

The 'Stay With Me' singer appears to have a fondness for Aotearoa, having visited several times, often gushing about the scenery online.

Earlier in the week, he posted a since-removed photo from a plane, writing, "26 hours later, finally arrived in heaven."

Smith was last in the country as recently as Novemeber, 2018, when he performed two shows at Auckland's Spark Arena.

The Edge, like Newshub, is owned by MediaWorks.
