US rap group Rae Sremmurd involved in Federal St, Auckland brawl

A US based rap group Rae Sremmurd was allegedly at the centre of a violent brawl and stabbing in central Auckland on Thursday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the incident on Federal St shortly after 4pm after reports of an altercation between two groups of people.

Police say a man received minor injuries from what is believed to be a glass bottle. He was taken to hospital by ambulance.

It's since been revealed rap group Rae Sremmurd, were involved. They were behind the song 'Black Beatles', which featured in the viral 'mannequin challenge' craze of 2016.

The group are due to perform at Epsom's Logan Campbell Centre on Friday night.

Group member Slim Jxmmi confirmed he was injured in the brawl during an Instagram Live video on Friday morning, Stuff reports.

He posted a video of his wrist on Thursday night, showing ice and bandages taped to it. The video appears to have been taken down.

NZME reports a man contacted reporters to say he was confronted after filming the group interacting with a homeless person who had been drinking.

The man said he thought the group's actions were inappropriate, and he confronted them about it shortly before the fight.

Images from the scene show blood spattered on the ground as police staff take photos.
