Windsor Davies, star of It Ain't Half Hot Mum, dies

The British actor Windsor Davies, who was best known for his role in It Ain’t half Hot Mum, has died at the age of 88.

Davies played Battery Sergeant-Major Williams in the iconic comedy and was famous for his catch phrase “Shut up.”

The show ran in the UK in the 1970s.

His family said he died peacefully in his sleep.

His daughter Jane released a statement that said "His wife of 62 years, Eluned, passed away in September. They leave a large and very close family who will all remember them with love, laughter and gratitude."

Davies had a long acting career that started in the 1960s with small TV roles before his breakthrough came in It Ain’t Half Hot Mum, which was set in India during the Second World War.

His last TV role was in 2004 appearing in My Family.

He retired to France with his wife, who he had five children with, after finishing acting.
