Jason Gunn chokes back tears in emotional tribute to TV handyman John 'Cocksy' Cocks

More FM host Jason Gunn has taken to Instagram to share an emotional tribute to TV handyman John 'Cocksy' Cocks, who died on Wednesday.

The 52-year-old star of shows such as My House My Castle and Cocksy's Day Off  was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2016.

"Some sad news - we lost a great bugger today," Gunn told his followers in a video uploaded to Instagram.

"A real good New Zealander. Cocksy, our favourite home handyman has passed away.

"He was such a character, such a great storyteller. The thing is, he could make something out of nothing with his incredible hands."

Cocks leaves behind his wife Dana Coote and three daughters, Ella, Sophie and Georgia, as well as a Kiwi television legacy.

"His greatest trait I believe, was the  way he treated others," Gunn continued.

"People like me, who can't make anything out of something, he always treated us with such respect and never made us feel less, because we could do a lot less."

"So Cocksy, thank you mate, thank you, you'll be so sadly missed," he concluded, choking back tears.

"And big love from my family, to your family - rest in peace mate."
