Trailer for new doco about Adnan Syed from the Serial podcast teases 'new evidence'

HBO has released a trailer for an upcoming documentary, The Case Against Adnan Syed, which will re-examine the murder case made infamous by the Serial podcast.

The four-part series teases "groundbreaking revelations that challenge the state's case," - good news for the over 170 million people who downloaded the 2014 crime podcast on the subject.

Syed was sentenced to life in prison in 2000 for kidnapping and murdering his 18-year-old ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee in 1999.

Now 38, he maintains his innocence, and had his conviction overturned in 2016. Today Syed remains behind bars while prosecutors appeal the decision to grant him a new trial.

The Case Against Adnan Syed offers new interviews with the alleged murderer, as well as his defense team and family.

HBO says the series has been in production since 2015, and will also cover the developments in the case since the wildly popular Serial was released almost five years ago.
