'Oh my God, this is so awful!' - TV host Holly Willoughby left in tears by April Fool's prank live on-air

UK TV host Holly Willoughby only just held back from swearing live on-air and was left in tears as the victim of an elaborate April Fool's prank.

The This Morning host was revealing a hair, make-up and wardrobe make-over to a lucky listener and her husband when things started to go awry.

The guest burst into tears upon seeing her reflection, leaving Willoughby and co-host Phillip Schofield to awkwardly attempt to console her.

Eventually, the couple was bustled out of the studio and into a waiting car, arguing along the way. As they drove off, the car crashed with a fiery explosion, leaving Willoughby frozen in horror.

As she shakily attempted to throw to a commercial break, Schofield revealed the whole thing was a prank - the guests were actors, and the car was driven by a stuntman.

"Oh my God, this is so awful!" Willoughby replied.

"I was panicking so much. I can't swear but I really want to!"

Despite the fact she was still shaking, Willoughby congratulated the team on pulling off the trick.

"I can't believe you've just done that to me. That's the best - forward slash worst - April Fool ever," she said.

"I'm so relieved it wasn't real!"

It's not the first time Willoughby has fallen victim to an on-camera stitch-up - she was famously pranked by TV presenting duo Ant and Dec on their show Saturday Night Takeaway, where they donned prosthetics and put her in the centre of a cringeworthy marriage proposal gone wrong.
