Prince Harry and Meghan Markle launch own Instagram account

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have launched their own Instagram account as they break away from the Kensington Palace household.

The @SussexRoyal Instagram account appeared on the social media site on Wednesday morning and has quickly gained more than 400,000 followers.

The couple's first post on the platform announces the account as the "official Instagram for their Royal Highness the Duke and Duchess of Sussex".

"'Welcome to our official Instagram; we look forward to sharing the work that drives us, the causes we support, important announcements, and the opportunity to shine a light on key issues', the caption reads.

"'We thank you for your support, and welcome you to @SussexRoyal'- Harry & Meghan."

It features several photos of the pair at events across the world.

The official Instagram account commented on the post, welcoming the famous couple to the site.

"Ummmm... hello! Welcome. We are so happy you are here," the comment says.

The new account comes as the Prince Harry and Meghan break away from the Kensington Palace household, with the Queen announcing in March that a new household would be created for the pair.

They have lived at Kensington Palace since their engagement, but will soon move to a new cottage on the Windsor Estate, west of London.

Fans of the couple have quickly shared their joy in the thought of the Instagram featuring Meghan's baby, which is expected during the northern hemisphere's spring.
