Game of Thrones star Kit Harrington has reportedly checked himself into a 'wellness retreat' for issues related to stress, exhaustion and alcohol use.

The 32-year-old actor portrayed Jon Snow in the hit fantasy show and celebrity gossip publication Page Six says the show's end had a major effect on him.

"The end of Game of Thrones really hit Kit hard. He realised 'this is it - this is the end'. It was something they had all worked so hard on for so many years. He had a moment of, what next?" Page Six reports a friend of Harrington's as saying.

"He's in the clinic predominantly for stress and exhaustion and also alcohol. His wife Rose [Leslie] is being extremely supportive. Everyone close to him really wanted him to get some rest. Right now, he just needs peace and quiet."

A representative for Harrington confirmed part of the story to Entertainment Tonight (ET), the outlet reports.

"Kit has decided to utilise this break in his schedule as an opportunity to spend some time at a wellness retreat to work on some personal issues," ET quotes the representative as saying.

The final season of Game of Thrones has divided fans, with many expressing displeasure with how things ended up and even starting a petition to have it remade.

Harrington has been blunt in his response to people critical of the show, saying they can "go f**k themselves".

"If people feel let down by it, I don't give a f**k - because everyone tried their hardest. That's how I feel. In the end, no one's bigger fans of the show than we are, and we're kind of doing it for ourselves," Harington told Esquire.

"Whatever critic spends half an hour writing about this season and makes their [negative] judgement on it, in my head, they can go f**k themselves."

Harrington reportedly checked into the clinic a few weeks before the final Game of Thrones episode aired, and remains there still.
