Vegan and gender neutral - Meghan Markle goes full modern mum for Baby Sussex

New parents Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have already gone against royal tradition by announcing the birth of their child on Instagram - and it appears the couple intend to do things a little differently from here on out.

The couple's nursery has been painted in "gender free" shades of white and grey. The paint used is reportedly vegan and infused with rosemary and eucalyptus essential oils.

According to an unnamed "palace insider" who spoke to Woman's Day in April, Meghan wants to raise her child as a vegan.

The 37-year-old follows a vegan diet during the week and eats animal products on weekends, as advised by her doctors, reports The Daily Mail.

Her lifestyle seems to have influenced her husband, who has been eating less meat since the pair met.

However it's rumoured the Queen won't be happy with their decision.

"The Queen won't have it," the insider told Woman's Day.

"Meghan seems to have little regard for royal traditions, but bringing the baby up as a vegan simply won't be tolerated by the monarch."

The pair is also hiring a nanny - Meghan has been clear she prefers to work than stay at home. It's reported they're hoping to find an American nanny to reflect her upbringing.

"Meghan was clear in telling recruiters she favours an American over a Brit and wants them to feel part of the family rather than a uniformed member of staff," a source told The Daily Mail.
