Max Wright, the actor that played the father on hit 80s sitcom ALF, has reportedly died at the age of 75.

According to TMZ, a family source confirmed Wright lost his battle with cancer at his home in Hermosa Beach, California, on Wednesday (local time).

Wright was diagnosed with lymphoma in 1995, but had reportedly been in remission for many years.

Best known for his role as Willie Tanner alongside the furry Alien Life Form - or ALF - on the famous TV show of the same name, Wright also appeared on shows like Cheers and Dudley.

ALF ran for four seasons between 1986 - 1990, following the antics of the loveable extra-terrestrial character hosted by the Tanner family.

Wright's wife, Linda Ybarrondo died in 2017. The couple had two children together.
