Mel B backtracks on her Spice Girls' Australian tour announcement

Mel B has backtracked after announcing to an ecstatic crowd on June 15 that the Spice Girls were coming to Australia in February next year. The announcement, which implied the iconic 90s girl group were taking their reunion tour down under, has now been retracted.

An audio clip from the end of the Spice World Tour's final show at London's Wembley Stadium captures Mel B's statement: "We will see you in February in Australia!"

Australian fans went into a frenzy - only to be left bereft a day later.

'Scary Spice' Mel B confirmed that nothing is locked in on Sydney radio station 2DayFM.

"I announced it on stage without everybody else signing off," she said.

"I figured if I put it out there it might happen."

Although the group's devotees down under have made it clear what they really, really want, it appears the Spice Girls won't be delivering.

The 'Wannabe' hitmakers have never performed in Australia before, making Mel B's baseless broadcast all the more disappointing for their fans.

The girl group launched their 13-show Spice World reunion tour in May, performing across the UK sans 'Posh Spice' Victoria Bechkam, who declined to take part.
