Ryan Reynolds' hilarious request to Kiwi actor Sam Neill

Hollywood heavyweight Ryan Reynolds has one simple request for Kiwi acting legend Sam Neill: "Will you be my dad?"

Reynolds' paternal request was prompted by an extremely wholesome series of posts from Neill featuring his pet duck, Charlie.

Neill documented the exciting moment he learned his feathered friend could fly, uploading a video of the surprising event where he can be heard telling the duck: "Nobody knew you could fly! You haven't flown for years. Good girl."

The Jurassic Park star later updated his 304,000 followers with a second video, in which he explained that Charlie had flown a second time over the weekend.

"I couldn't be more proud," he says in the clip, before planting a kiss on his pet.

At this point, it appeared Reynolds was overcome by the adorable series of tweets, asking Neill in the comments: "Will you be my dad?"

Despite his affection for Charlie, Neill didn't extend quite the same level of fatherly love to Reynolds, replying: "Ryan. We've talked about this. I was only nine. Also, your flying is still crap."

More of Neill's fans rallied in the comments, with one Twitter user explaining: "If you move to New Zealand he legally becomes your dad".

Others saw an opportunity, suggesting that Neill play Reynold's dad on the big screen - perhaps in the Deadpool universe.
