Disney accused of 'blindsiding' families with 'dangerous' lesbian scene in Toy Story 4

A conservative Christian group has launched a petition against Disney and the Toy Story 4 film, alleging a scene that depicts a child with two mothers is "dangerous".

One Million Moms published a tirade against the movie on their website, accusing Disney of including the "subtle" reference to LGBTQ characters in order to "expose as many children as possible".

The group is encouraging followers to boycott the wildly popular movie, which has already raked in US$662 million at the worldwide box office.

"At the start of the movie, when Woody's new owner Bonnie goes for her first day of kindergarten, in the background there is a quick scene where one child is dropped off by two moms," the article reads.

"Later, the moms return to pick up their child who gives them a hug. The scene is subtle in order to desensitize children. But it is obvious that the child has two mothers, and they are parenting together.

"Toy Story 4 is the last place parents would expect their children to be confronted with content regarding sexual orientation."

The article referenced the praise the scene had received from some reviewers, calling it a "small moment of normalisation," which the group claims is exactly what makes it "so dangerous".

"Issues of this nature are being introduced too early and too soon. It is extremely common yet unnecessary."

The petition states that the undersigned "does not appreciate Disney including LGBTQ content in the children's movie".

At the time of writing, the petition has received 12,964 signatures.
