Hailey Bieber defends Justin after savage burn from Tool singer

Justin Bieber's wife has leapt to his defence after the pop star was mocked on Twitter by Maynard James Keenan, frontman of Tool.

The 'Baby' singer posted lyrics from a Tool song on social media, which led to a news outlet tweeting he was "officially" a fan of the alt metal act.

Maynard replied to the tweet simply saying: "#bummer".

A few days later, Hailey Bieber tweeted a reply admonishing the 'Stinkfist' hit-maker.

"[Justin] expressed he was a fan of your music. Grew up listening to your music," claimed the model.

"You must be unhappy with yourself that you want to make people feel small who express their admiration for you. Very childish and hurtful thing to do.

"I hope you find security within yourself. Sad place to be."

Maynard hasn't responded directly to Hailey's scolding, but appears to have addressed the controversy again in his most recent tweet, which is simply a link to the Tool video for 'Hush'.

That track includes numerous insults, along with the lyrics: "I can't say what I want to / even if I'm not serious.

"Even if I'm just kidding / People tell me what to say / What to think and what to play."

Tool's long-awaited fifth full studio album will be released in August, the band's first since 10,000 Days in 2006.
