Terry Crews has thrown his hat into the ring for a major role in Disney's live-action The Little Mermaid remake.

Earlier this week, the action movie star took to Twitter to share a photoshopped picture of himself as King Triton from The Little Mermaid.

"Ariel's Dad!!!! #ArielsGotTerry #AmericasGotTerry," he captioned the image.

The news excited fans - with one starting a petition for Crews to get the role.

"Well okay, but only if there's a scene where he beats up Ursula using nothing but his pecs," one person commented.

"I don't like Disney live-action remakes, but I'll watch this one if this were to happen," another said.

However, he may face competition from another famous actor - Idris Elba.

Artist BossLogic created a poster showing what the Marvel series star could look like if he was cast as King Triton.

"The right man for the right job," one fan wrote, while another commented, "Idris Elba could record himself knitting a sweater in silence for two hours and I'd watch it."

The upcoming reboot has already cast R&B singer Halle Bailey as the new Ariel. One half of the musical duo Chloe X Halle along with her sister, the 19-year-old nabbed the iconic role after what's been called an exhaustive casting process.

According to Variety, Bailey will be joining a cast that includes Awkafina and Jacob Tremblay. Melissa McCarthy is reportedly in talks to play Ursula.
