The Project: Jamie Morton talks about his 'My Dad Wrote A Porno' podcast success

Not many people can claim their own parent is a proud writer of pornography.

If there are others out there who knows their father enjoys penning pornographic novels in the garden shed, never fear - the best can always be made of a bad, if not slightly distressing, situation.

Jamie Morton has achieved global fame off the back of his podcast, My Dad Wrote a Porno, based on his father's penchant for erotica.

Now, Morton's podcast has been made into an HBO comedy special and has a worldwide fan base including Dame Emma Thompson.

"My dad was a retired builder, and thought the best way to avoid boredom and death was to write erotica in the garden shed without my mum knowing... and he decided to share it with me, his only son," Morton told The Project on Monday's episode.

"It's a ridiculous, bizarre and terrible book - but I felt I had to share with the world."

Morton admits he was taken aback by his father's first attempt as an author.

"I thought it was going to be a book about pirates or like a James Bond thing...but the first line is about a woman getting naked in a Pots 'n' Pan job interview."

Morton's popular podcast involves his two best mates, who have been "very supportive" helping Morton through "this emotional time".

The new up-coming comedy show will showcase brand-new unreleased material by Morton's dad.

"He couldn't care less," Morton said about his father's strange success.

"He is immune to critique, he honestly thinks he's a great writer and has created a masterpiece."

For Morton's mother, the porno was satisfyingly reassuring.

"She said it's hard to listen to, but at least I know he's never had an affair," Morton laughed.

The podcast has picked up a number of prestigious fans, including "super famous" Dame Emma Thompson.

"It turns out perverts are everywhere - dames, popstars, knights of the realm..."

"[Emma] invited us round for tea, and got us quite drunk."

The 'My Dad Wrote a Porno' live show is set to be performed in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch this coming January.
