13 Reasons Why season 3 trailer reveals Bryce Walker's death

A trailer for the third season of controversial teen rape and suicide show 13 Reasons Why reveals one of the main characters is dead.

Bryce Walker, played by Justin Prentice, has apparently been killed, according to the clip, after being one of the main characters on the show since it launched in 2017.

Season three will pick up where things left off last year, as Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette) and his friends were shouldering the burden of their classmate Tyler, who nearly committed an unthinkable act at Spring Fling.

"Eight months after preventing Tyler from committing an unthinkable act at Spring Fling, Clay, Tony, Jessica, Alex, Justin, and Zach find ways to shoulder the burden of the cover-up together while helping Tyler move toward recovery," the Season 3 synopsis states.

"But when the aftermath of a tumultuous Homecoming game culminates in the disappearance of a football player, and Clay finds himself under police scrutiny, it's up to a shrewd outsider to steer the group through an investigation that threatens to lay bare everyone's deepest secrets."

Last month, Netflix finally censored a graphic suicide scene in the show - two years after it had been released - citing advice from mental health professionals as the motivation for the unprecedented move.

In New Zealand, the scene triggered fiery debate and action from the Office of Film and Literature Classification, which gave it an RP18 rating.

13 Reasons Why Season 3 will be released on August 23.
