Adults-only The Lion King screening confirmed

Calls for an adult-only screening of The Lion King seem to have been answered.

On Sunday night, Event Cinemas are holding an R18 screening of the film across the nation. An R18 screening also took place on Friday night.

"Hakuna Matata! It means no kids allowed," the cinema chain said.

"Take your place this weekend and experience Disney's The Lion King at our special R18 Adults Only Screening."

It follows calls from a Porirua man last month whose rant went viral when he asked parents to take their kids to the film during the day.

Hikawera Ferris' post implored parents: "Don't ruin my time with Mufasa and Simbux [sic]" and has been reacted to thousands of times.

Newshub's movie guru Kate Rodger also had a negative experience when a parent changed a toddler's nappy in the middle of a packed cinema.

Fans of all ages helped The Lion King make Kiwi box office history as the biggest opening day for Disney Studio film in New Zealand.

The remake also took the number three spot behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Avengers: Endgame as the country's biggest movie opening box office week of all time.
