Miley Cyrus denies cheating on Liam Hemsworth in emotional Twitter thread

Popstar Miley Cyrus has denied her marriage to actor Liam Hemsworth broke down because she cheated on him.

On Thursday, it was revealed that Hemsworth had filed for divorce from his wife of seven months, citing irreconcilable differences. It came a little more than a week after the couple announced their separation.

There have been several rumours as to why the marriage broke down. American media have reported sources claim it was due to everything from Cyrus being frustrated by Hemsworth's constant partying to allegations Cyrus was cheating on the actor.

A picture of Cyrus being intimate with Kaitlynn Carter - the ex-girlfriend of Brody Jenner - has also sparked speculation Cyrus was cheating on Hemsworth.

But in an emotional Twitter thread, Cyrus has shut that down.

"I can admit to a lot of things but I refuse to admit that my marriage ended because of cheating," she said.

"Liam and I have been together for a decade. I've said it before & it remains true, I love Liam and always will.

"At this point I had to make a healthy decision for myself to leave a previous life behind. I am the healthiest and happiest I have been in a long time.  You can say I am a twerking, pot-smoking, foul-mouthed hillbilly but I am not a liar."

In the thread, Cyrus admitted to cheating in past relationships, previously experimenting with drugs, losing a business deal due to using a bong, and being kicked out of a Transylvania hotel for licking a penis cake.

"I've learned from every experience in my life. I'm not perfect, I don't want to be, it's boring. I've grown up in front of you, but the bottom line is, I HAVE GROWN UP."

Her fans on Twitter also came to her defence.

"Please know that smilers always knew that you would never cheat on Liam, that was all the press and of course some misogynistic assholes," said one user. "So proud of you and your growth. Thank you for being you and being open. Love you," said another.

The pair, who dated on and off after meeting on the set of the 2009 film The Last Song, were first engaged in 2012 before splitting a year later. They became engaged again in 2016 after rekindling their relationship.

The former Disney Channel star's latest song, 'Slide Away', is thought to reveal details about the marriage breakdown, leading fans to believe alcohol and substance abuse may be partly to blame.

Hemsworth has recently been spotted in Australia's Byron Bay while staying with his older brother and fellow actor, Chris Hemsworth.
