Anyone tasked with playing All Black legend Jonah Lomu on screen would feel daunted, but being made to look the part would ease the pressure.

Mosese Veaila, 21, took on the role of a lifetime by portraying the rugby superstar in Three's mini-series Jonah.

In this time-lapse video, the actor has his hair, facial hair and eyebrows augmented to look like the man who made the No.11 jersey famous.

"Jonah tells the once-in-a-lifetime story of the greatest rugby player the world has ever known," says the synopsis on Three.

"This two-part series follows Lomu's rise to the top, but also his devastating battle behind the scenes."

Alongside Veaila, the mini-series also stars Joel Tobeck, Craig Hall, Kelson Henderson and Joe Naufahu.

Jonah's two parts screen at 8:30pm on Three on Sunday night and Monday night.
