Arnold Schwarzenegger lends Tesla Model 3 to Greta Thunberg

Arnold Schwarzenegger is lending Greta Thunberg an electric car to travel around while in the US, much to her amusement.

The 72-year-old Terminator star has long campaigned for the environment, including signing the Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 while Governor of California.

Thunberg, the 16-year-old climate activist who spoke at the United Nations Climate Change Summit last week, spoke about his offer on Norwegian-Swedish TV show Skavlan.

"One of the funniest offers I've received is that Arnold Schwarzenegger has offered me to lend his electric car if I want to," Thunberg said, according to a press release from Skavlan about the interview.

A spokesperson for Schwarzenegger confirmed to Car and Driver that he has arranged a Tesla Model 3 for Thunberg to travel around North America for a series of public events.

"Greta can travel fully electric through the United States and Canada," the spokesperson said.

However, the Tesla isn't Schwarzenegger's favourite electric vehicle - that would be his Kreisel Electric H1 Hummer.

"Getting his electric Hummer across the country would be quite a challenge, so it isn't his personal car... it's a Tesla Model 3," the spokesperson told Car and Driver.

On Twitter, Schwarzenegger said he was "starstruck" when he met Thunberg, posting a photo of the pair smiling together.

The photo was taken at the Austrian World Summit, an initiative of Schwarzenegger's climate action organisation #R20.
