Auckland Symphony Orchestra lights up town hall with dance tracks

Punters at Auckland Town Hall experienced a live music show with a difference on Friday night with the local symphony orchestra trying its hand at dance tracks.

The "Synthony" show featured the Auckland Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Peter Thomas, bringing to life well-loved music from the last 30 years for a packed audience.

It's a tried and tested formula, having made its way to New Zealand from overseas a few years ago, and clearly concert-goers were loving it.

Video posted to social media from the event shows lasers and lights shooting across the audience while dance classics like Darude's 'Sandstorm' played.

Hosted by George FMs General Lee, artists included KINGS, Helen Corry, Cherie Mathieson, Jenny B and Lewis McCallum.

The show finishes up in Auckland on Saturday night, but will continue across New Zealand and head to Hamilton and Wellington in October.

Wellington's show is predicted to be the "grand finale" and will feature DJs Dick Johnson and Greg Churchill.
