Zoe Kravitz will play Catwoman in The Batman

Robert Pattinson will be joined by Zoe Kravitz in upcoming film The Batman, in which she'll play the iconic role of Catwoman.

The actor and daughter of musician Lenny Kravitz has starred in Mad Max: Fury Road, HBO's Big Little Lies, X-Men: First Class and Divergent.

Catwoman has previously been portrayed on the big screen by Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry and Anne Hathaway, while Kravitz voiced the character in 2017 animated film The Lego Batman Movie.

The Batman was originally going to be written and directed by Ben Affleck, who was set to reprise his role as the titular character, before quitting the DC Extended Universe franchise in early 2017.

Matt Reeves, director of Cloverfield and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, then signed on to direct it.

"It's very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale," Reeves told The Hollywood Reporter in January.

"I hope it's going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It's more Batman in his detective mode than we've seen in the films. The comics have a history of that.

"He's supposed to be the world's greatest detective, and that's not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been."

Alongside Kravitz and Pattinson, the film will also star Jeffrey Wright, while Jonah Hill is rumoured to play a villain, and Joe Manganiello and Jeremy Irons were previously attached.

The Batman will reportedly begin production late this year or early 2020. It's scheduled to hit cinemas in June, 2021.
