Almost 30 years ago Dame Kiri Te Kanawa opened Auckland's ASB theatre, now the venue is being renamed in her honour.
The name change is taking place with a gala in the presence of Dame Te Kanawa, who has been recognised as one of New Zealand's greatest opera singers.
